You have just downloaded the latest (March, 1999) version of Matrix maker, a stand-alone application designed for the creation and formatting of twelve-tone matrices. This program is useful both for those who compose twelve-tone music and for those interested in analyzing such music. The application makes use not only of the traditional twelve-tone transformations (i.e., transposition, inversion, retrograde, and retrograde-inversion), but will in addition compute and format matrices employing the M5 or M7 transform, rotation, and/or “Stravinsky verticals.” The program is designed to create not only the usual 12 by 12 arrays; it will in addition produce 5 by 5, 6 by 6, 7 by 7 matrices (all of which can be built by using either the traditional operations of the twelve-tone system or the principle of “Stravinsky verticals”), and 6 by 6 and 12 by 12 “Stravinsky verticals” arrays. (The application supports the creation even of matrices such as 3 by 3, 4 by 4, 8 by 8, etc., that are not normally found in twelve-tone music.) The rotation and/or multiplicative operations may also be employed in combination with “Stravinsky verticals.” (You can find information concerning sources for reference that explain both the M5 and M7 transforms and “Stravinsky verticals” in the accompanying documentation in HTML format.)
Version 3.0.2 is a very minor fix to correct the e-mail address information in the ReadMe file. Updating is not necessary if you are currently running v 3.0.1. If you are a registered user of v 3.0 and/or 3.0.1, you do not need to pay the shareware fee again in order to upgrade to v 3.0.2.
The folder containing this text file includes six items:

4) a file called “Starting_point.html” that will open the documentation with the browser of your choice
5) the Matrix maker 3.0.2 application
